Born in New York in 1976, Billy Gavigan knew from an early age what he wanted to become and has gone on to fulfill that dream and achieve the goals he set early on. He worked for his father, James Gavigan, in his real estate development and construction company as a child, diligently learning the business before enlisting in the USMC, where he stayed for twelve years.
When he joined the Marines, he was chosen to be a member of the Elite Special Operations Capable Group (ESOCG) Bomb Squad. Then, in record time, he was promoted to the rank of SSgt. and went on to advance to Gunnery Sgt. Billy was awarded numerous medals, and he traveled the world performing one of the most dangerous missions in the world with the EOD (Bomb Squad).
The highlight of his career was being selected as a Commissioned Officer by his Commanders and elected officials because of his keen outstanding, strong leadership ability and his selfless devotion to his Marines. His greatest personal honor was being chosen to attend The Citadel while he was on active duty under the program (MECEP), to become a Marine Officer. While no one else in his family had ever attended a 4-year college, most male family members served in the military for generations.
During his service on active duty, Billy learned valuable lessons and left the Marines with an understanding of Federal and State governments operations. During his service, he was assigned to protect the President of the United States, often serving on his direct support team. Moreover, he taught FBI classes for bomb investigations and led a number of real-world missions that placed him directly in harm’s way, to include hostage rescue missions. Those experiences would pay off for him in his career and, actually, laid the foundation for his effective governmental relations and interactions.
After leaving the Corps, Billy sharpened and perfected his business skills and abilities to the point where he would realize a good deal when it presented itself. He pursued real estate and urban redevelopment and ultimately decided to make the South Carolina real estate market his next goal, and he did so with great success. Billy had only a small bank balance at that time, but his unrelenting self-confidence, coupled with his effective negotiating skills, and a wealth of knowledge of the market, he became a member of an exclusive business group consisting of top developers, land owners and government officials in the southeast.
Billy has a proven track record of high return deals he put together totaling more than $350 million in direct sales and $1 billion in indirect and development relationships, having great growth impact on the southeast region. Some say Billy is successful because he kept a core group of influential mentors to guide him.
